Yesterday I signed up for Media Temple and plan to move from A Small Orange. This is the first domain moved over at the moment and if you can see this post then your looking at the moved site sitting on (mt)’s server. If you don’t see this post then you won’t read this message anyways, but you will also still be looking at the ASO server. Some of my other sites will be up and down during this move as I’m taking the chance to organize a few things and clean up some things. Another post later today.

The site had several problems today but most (if not all) were mine. I have been messing with plugins and WordPress today getting ready to finally put up my new layout (as its been delayed for weeks now). The new layout is just about finished (just messing with WP tags and plugins now) however I had some problems today which caused some sql errors and and wp errors for a few hours. Everything seems to be fixed and working (nothing was lost).
Today was spent mostly offline as we had tons of work to do around the house. We still hadn’t finished unpacking everything and needed to do some clean up. I also finally finished getting my computer setup and organizing my desk. Still have work to do but not this weekend. Tomorrow starts my first day back to client work in about two weeks and trust me the stack of work has been growing. I use activeCollab as my project management software to communicate with clients and organize work lists and after logging in yesterday to check up on some things before the week starts and found a ton of new tasks had been added (including some coding work). I might get an early start and do a little work tonight.

Is it? Maybe it is. However this is just a temp setup. Its actually a theme from PlainTxt. They are really simple WP themes. Basically a great starting place when creating your own themes. I’m currently using one called Simplr. This isn’t the one I’m currently editing but I kinda liked the simple one column layout (haven’t really used a one column design in awhile). I am working on my own design right now. Mainly getting together a color scheme and logo design. I already have the basic layout done just gotta do some styling. Coding WordPress Themes is actually a lot easier then it looks. Reading the docs on the WP site its a little much at first but the once you open another theme and start messing around its pretty simple. I know the site has been pretty slow the past 2 months as I’ve had several new clients and a ton of work however so far things are calming down so I’m going to be working on this site.
Update: I wasn’t liking the white bg and black text so I did a little styling to this theme. Its actually the colors I plan to use for my upcoming design.

During the process of redesigning my site with what you see here, I started to think about switching the backend for my blog. I have been using CuteNews for years and its always been great, after tons of hacks, mods, and fixes, as CuteNews isn’t that great out of the box. The main thing I’ve always liked about CuteNews was because it was one of the first blogging scripts I ever used and have spent years on it, I pretty much know the inside and out of it and can make it do just about anything (just about). I have tried other blogging scripts in the past including WordPress (about 2 years ago) and after installing them and browsing around I just never wanted to take the time to relearn another script, so I would normally delete them after a day.
However, the time has come where I hope to expand my blog and turn it into something and want and easier way to keep it updated and add some new features. WordPress has been the standard in blogging for awhile now and is in active development and has a great community. So, there is a chance that I will be dropping CuteNews in the near future for something better, maybe WordPress. I have actually installed the latest copy of WordPress today and just finished converting my design into a WordPress Theme (which was pretty easy, the once I read up on it a little). I’m gonna mess with it through next week before I make my choice.
