I coach my sons Under 5 soccer team, the Road Runners, for the Lawton United Soccer Club. Today was the last game of the season. This was also my second season coaching. Before last season I had never watched or played soccer. We enrolled Chase because it was the only sport he could do at 4 years old. I ended up learning a lot last season and more this season. I have enjoyed coaching both seasons (8 kids on my team this season and 9 last season) and the kids are great. Sometimes you can get stressed because you are working with 3-4 year olds but overall its fun for me as the coach and of course the kids and parents have fun. I try to involve the parents a lot and get them on the fields for practices. We also do 3vs3 against the parents from time to time as warm-ups. The kids always love it. Mostly we teach soccer through games. They are just 3-4 so you can’t expect to much but they have fun whether its red light/green light or hit the coach. After the game today, in which the kids did great, their best game of the season, we went to Ci-Ci’s for an End of Season Party. There we handed out the medals that the club provides but I also went and had certificates printed and ordered soccer ball patches to give the kids. Of course the kids were more interested in the pizza and the cake that a parent made.
Next season I plan to coach two teams. My team this season will all be returning which is great to have a full team returning (I had no players from last season return). I will also be starting a second U5 team for my daughter and niece who both will be old enough to play (you must be 3). It should be interesting doing two teams. The plus will be we can have some practices together and on our practice Saturdays (we have 5 games over 8 weeks) we can do mini games between my two teams. I actually think that I enjoy it more then my son.

I know the site has been lacking on posts the past several weeks and I do plan to get back to posting. For those who follow me on twitter know how busy I have been between work, looking for new clients, coaching my sons soccer team and still working on settling since the move. For some reason it always takes us months to get settled into a place. We have boxes that haven’t been touched still, nothing on any walls, etc. I have also been working on a new design to put up here for the past several months and its still not finished. Looking at it now, I don’t even think that I like it. Might just use a theme for now and set my goal for my design in January. I also haven’t forgotten about my OpenSource Projects either. 2532|Gigs is still an active project however development has been on hold for awhile. I talked with Nick (the other developer) and we have plans to pick back up on development in the coming weeks and release a new version very soon and shoot for v2.0 early 2008. FieldStatus is just about ready for its first release. I have been working on it the past few weeks bug fixing and putting the final touches on it. Its currently in use on a client site and works great. It will be released as an OpenSource script until January 2008 when it will be moved to a hosted app with several price levels. More details on this will come later this year. Thats about all I have for now. Things will calm down in November and I will be back to posting and developing some of my projects (and some new ones next year).

This past Spring I was a soccer coach for the U5 Lawton Road Runners for the LUSC. I had never been involved in soccer before but we wanted to enroll Chase, my 4 year old son. It was great and we all had alot of fun. My team was mostly 4 year olds with a 3 and 5 year old as well. Since I no longer live in Lawton I hadn’t really planned on coaching this Fall Season but after thinking about it and talking with the club I figured I would go ahead and coach again this season. I hope to have some returning players but don’t mind new ones. Its only about a 40min drive to Lawton so its not bad to make the drive 3 times a week for about two months. After officially signing up to coach today I have gotten excited about coaching again. It was fun last season but I was as clueless as my team was so it was a chance to learn for all of us. I know more now and have done more reading and watching of soccer to prepare. Its also a blast to teach the young kids and needless to say get out their and have fun myself.
On a quick side note; I had been working on a new layout for this site for the past two months and have one just about finished but after looking at it today I’m not sure I want to use it. I have a problem with growing tired of my layouts normally just after they are launched but this time before launch. I’m not sure if I will have time to do a new one or if I’ll just use the one I’m working on or leave it like this.
